Wiimote makes poor substitute for rubber bone
December 4, 2006 on 1:19 pm | In Furry Damage |
Snickers the Beagle finds himself between an excited Wii ten pin bowler and her screen.
Mike from Illinois, USA writes:
“My wife wanted to try out the Wii and wanted to give Bowling a shot. The only thing that ended up getting a shot was the jaw of her Beagle. She upper cutted him right in the face! He was OK, but it just goes to show you how dangerous interactive games can be if you don’t have the proper room and keep humans AND hounds out of the way.”
We’re pleased to see Snickers is OK, and still smiling. Let’s try not to add to the Furry Damage category shall we? But we’ll notch one more up for Wii Sports Bowling.
The participating pooch stories continue after the jump.
Update:
Sounds like our canine friends are finding their Wiimote-flailing owners a particular curiosity - we’ve found two further reports of users accidentally giving their faithful companions a facefull when they’ve wandered into the action zone.
As reported to the MacRumors forums, rtdgoldfish says:
“I actually clocked my dog in the head while playing bowling the first night I had the Wii. He was trying to figure out what I was doing and wham, he got it right in the back of the head. Kinda wimpered and walked away, now he avoids me if I’m playing.”
MovieCutter responds:
“I accidentally clocked my dog in the face when he decided to help me during the home run derby of Wii Sports. He didn’t even flinch. He was doing the same thing, trying to figure out what this newfangled contraption was. SMACK, and he just kept investigating.”
Clearly Snickers, Fido and Rover are finding Nintendo’s latest too exciting by far. Let’s have a little less “clocking” - best keep them in the kitchen, or give them a very stern talking to before swinging that Wii remote.

[…] Nintendo is offering a replacement program for any Wii console owner who has a controller with the earlier, thinner connecting strap (on the right above), enabling gamers to avoid smashing their TV sets, pets, or lighting fixtures without having to resort to using some fishing twine. US Wii owners can head over to Nintendo’s US customer service website, type in their serial number, and request the number of straps they need. European gamers, on the other hand, will need to wait until Monday according to Eurogamer. […]

I am pleased to see the addition of the furry section. I am a furry, and frequently rely on the strap as a safety feature. However, after only a few weeks of twice daily use the strap broke and the Wiimote is now lost internally.

Its hard to choose to laugh your butt off or cruy ya know. Have fun with the new wiii, looks like an outside toy ha!

I was having similar problems as I was jumping around the lounge room quite a bit. So I just decided to give Harry - my dog - some of the scrumptious homemade dog treats I made. Amd that kept him busy, well for awhile anyway. Then he wanted to jump back into the action.

To all the people giving this person slack for accidentally hitting her dog, do you have dogs? I have dogs and they move quick. I was playing bowling and my dog crossed my path at the exact moment I swung my hand forward and we made contact. She didn’t seem the least bit bothered, but I felt bad.

I hit my dog, and now everytime I play, she comes up and tries to bite the Wiimote, or just bark at me. She sits there and glares….

Wow..same exact thing happened to me. Last night I tried out bowling on our new WII for the first time. My pug puppy ran in front of me right as I was going to throw the “ball” then…SMACK! Right in the kisser..he just bugged his eyes out even more than they already are and let out a loud whimper and would not come close to me the duration of the game…poor puppy!

I think my dog has developed a complex since the Wii moved in. We have been through two controllers in one month. She might be mad because she was smacked as I was practicing my swing on Tiger Woods.
